Residency Application Consulting Financing

Let residency applicants pay for your Match consulting over time, while your practice receives the funded amount upfront.

The residency Match is high-stakes and application-heavy, and the cost of your help lands in the spring, long before anyone learns where they matched. Third-party financing gives applicants another way to pay for a comprehensive package without requiring your practice to manage an installment plan.

The short version
  • Financing lets an applicant repay a lender over time, while your practice receives the funded amount upfront once the loan is funded.
  • It fits comprehensive ERAS and interview packages, the engagements that reach five figures because applicants apply to dozens of programs.
  • The lender handles underwriting, billing and servicing, so your team is not collecting payments across the Match cycle.

What Makes Residency Match Support So Costly

Residency applicants apply to a lot of programs. In the 2026 cycle, U.S. MD seniors averaged about 54 applications, osteopathic applicants about 68, and international medical graduates about 114.

Even with program signals now used in more than two dozen specialties, a serious list still runs to dozens of programs, each needing a tailored ERAS application.

Supporting that means guiding the personal statement, the ERAS experiences and meaningful experiences, letters and signal strategy, then preparing an applicant for a long run of interviews and, finally, a rank order list. That workload is why comprehensive packages reach five figures and why they are the engagements applicants most often finance. The stakes add to it: an applicant who does not match faces the SOAP scramble or a lost year.

The cycle is also long. MyERAS opens in June, applications go to programs in September, interviews run through the fall and winter, and Match Day falls in March. Your fee is due near the start of that timeline, often before the application season even opens.

What Is Residency Application Consulting Financing?

Residency application consulting financing lets an applicant pay for a Match advisory package over time through a third-party lender rather than paying the full fee at once. The applicant applies directly, reviews the offers they qualify for, and chooses whether to proceed. If the loan is approved and funded, your practice receives the funded amount upfront, and the applicant repays the lender over the agreed term.

How Residency Consulting Fees Are Priced

Most firms price by how much of the Match cycle the engagement covers, from editing the ERAS materials up to a full package that carries an applicant through signals, interviews and the rank order list. The tiers below are illustrative, drawn from published pricing at established firms; actual fees vary by firm, consultant seniority and scope.

Package TierWhat It Typically CoversExample Pricing
Editing onlyPersonal statement, ERAS experiences and scholarly works editing$1,900 – $2,500
ComprehensiveEditing plus letter and signal strategy, program-list review, and two mock interviews$5,000 – $7,000
PremierEverything above, plus rank order list guidance, geographic-signal strategy and up to four mock interviews$7,900 – $11,000+
Hourly / à la carteTargeted help: a single essay, a CV or ERAS review, or a mock interviewPriced per item

Financing is most relevant for the comprehensive and premier tiers, where the fee runs into five figures. Editing-only and single-item work is usually paid directly.

How Financing Works in Your Enrollment Process

The process fits into your existing enrollment workflow. You share your application link, the applicant reviews available offers, and the lender handles underwriting and servicing.

1
Check Offers

The applicant follows your link to review the rates and terms they prequalify for. This uses a soft credit inquiry, so it does not affect their credit score.

2
Choose a Term

They compare the monthly payment and loan length and choose the option that fits their budget.

3
Get Funded

If the applicant accepts an offer and the loan is funded, your practice receives the funded amount upfront. The applicant then repays the lender directly.

Understanding Your Client Payment Options

Some practices split the fee into a few installments. That leaves your practice waiting on the balance across a long cycle and responsible for collecting it. If a card is declined or a payment is late, your team has to follow up while interview prep and rank-list work are still underway.

With third-party financing via Coach Financing Solutions, the lender manages repayment while your practice receives the funded amount upfront. The comparison below shows the practical differences.

Consider an $8,000 comprehensive Match package that begins in spring. With a six-month in-house plan, your practice could still be collecting payments while interview season is running in the fall. With third-party financing, the practice receives the funded amount upfront, while the applicant repays the lender over the agreed term.

Figures are illustrative. Rates, terms and final approvals are determined solely by participating lenders.

Learn How to Offer Financing

When and How to Offer Financing to Applicants

Present financing alongside your other payment options rather than only after an applicant raises concerns about cost. The natural time is in spring, as applicants decide to retain you ahead of the June opening of MyERAS.

  1. Lead with the plan: Walk through the specialty, the program list and the Match timeline before the fee comes up.
  2. State the full fee: Give the full price, then show the ways to pay it.
  3. Present the ways to pay together: Offer pay-in-full and monthly financing side by side.
  4. Make it visible early: Note the monthly option on your services and pricing pages, and include the application link in your proposal and follow-up.
  5. Begin the engagement once funded: Start onboarding after the loan is funded and the fee is received.

Refunds, Withdrawals, and Match Outcomes

Once a loan is funded, repayment is handled between the applicant and the lender. Clear engagement, cancellation and refund terms are still worth setting before the cycle begins.

If an applicant does not match

Your work is paid for coaching and preparation, not a guaranteed Match result. A Match outcome, including an applicant who enters the SOAP, does not by itself change the applicant’s obligations under their loan and service agreement with the lender. Spell out your own engagement and refund terms clearly from the start.

If an applicant misses a payment

Repayment is handled between the borrower and the lender. Your practice does not manage late fees, collections or the applicant’s credit.

If an engagement ends early

If your agreement provides a partial refund for unused scope, process that adjustment through the lending platform rather than paying the applicant directly, consistent with your agreement and the provider’s requirements.

Compliance for Residency Admissions Consultants

Keep financing separate from any discussion of Match outcomes. It is a way to pay for coaching, not a factor in whether an applicant is interviewed, ranked, or matched, and questions about rates or terms go to the lender. Residency applications also carry an authorship rule: applicants certify that their ERAS materials are their own, so guidance has to stay guidance.

What to Do
  • Show the full fee and present financing as one way to pay.
  • Describe your service as coaching and preparation, not a guaranteed result.
  • Keep Match and interview claims, statistics and testimonials accurate and supportable, consistent with the FTC guides.
  • Use lender-approved language, and send rate and term questions to the lender.
What to Avoid
  • Do not guarantee a Match, an interview, or a specific rank result.
  • Do not suggest financing affects any program’s review or the NRMP algorithm.
  • Do not revise ERAS or MSPE materials in a way that misrepresents authorship.
  • Do not describe private financing as financial aid, a school or program loan, or ERAS or NRMP fee assistance.
  • Do not complete a financing application for an applicant, or quote rates or APR unless the lender publishes them.

Is Financing a Fit for Your Practice?

Financing is most useful for practices that sell comprehensive Match packages, where the fee reaches into five figures and is due near the start of a cycle that runs from spring to the following March. If most of your work is editing-only or single-item, it is probably unnecessary.

It is not a reason to move an applicant into a larger package than they need, or to encourage a longer program list than their strategy calls for. It is a way for applicants who want full support to pay over time rather than from savings all at once.

Residency Application Consulting Financing FAQ

When in the cycle should I present financing?

In spring, as applicants decide to retain you ahead of the June opening of MyERAS. The engagement usually begins months before Match Day in March, and interview invitations reward complete, early applications, so raising a monthly option early gives applicants another way to manage the upfront fee.

Which engagements are worth financing?

The comprehensive and premier tiers, where the fee reaches five figures because the package carries an applicant through ERAS editing, signal and program-list strategy, mock interviews and the rank order list. Editing-only and single-item work is usually paid directly.

Do international medical graduates use this?

International medical graduates are a large part of the residency consulting market, and they apply to the most programs on average, so comprehensive packages and a monthly payment option are especially relevant for them. The lender, not your practice, reviews each application and sets the terms, and some applicants apply with a co-applicant.

Does checking financing offers affect the applicant’s credit score?

No. Checking the offers an applicant prequalifies for uses a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect their score. A hard inquiry generally happens only if they formally accept an offer. Steps vary by lender, so point applicants to the lender’s disclosures.

Is this the same as financial aid or ERAS fee assistance?

No. This is private financing for your consulting fee only. It has no connection to federal student loans, a school or program, or ERAS or NRMP fee assistance, and it should not be described as financial aid.
